CUSC B-U9 Team Gaining Momentum
1/14/10

After a long and difficult first season, the CUSC B-U9 team has begun to show signs of significant progress and promise of a successfully competitive future. During their first appearance at League Cup in December 2009, the U9’s beat Canyon PSA Red in a 3-2 game, and then defeated Arsenal FC White 7-1, thus qualifying them to advance to the Round of 32 where they lost to Valley United Red in a hard fought game.

The team celebrated the beginning of 2010 by placing 2nd in the Long Beach Mayor’s Cup with only 8 players. In the playoff game, the boys played their hardest, losing to FC Downey by only 1 point, making the final score of the tournament 2-1.

Coach Ben Prado let the parents and team know they had a great successful season again as hard as it was to lose in Pk’s. The team should be playing in gold next year and we will be looking for a few players to add to our roster.

CUSC 94 Wins Wolfpack Invitational

Congratulations to CUSC 94 for winning their first tournament of the summer, the Wolfpack Invitational, the weekend of July 18 and 19, 2009. With a successful spring season in hand, the boys went into the tournament with high expectations. Not to be disappointed, the boys ended bracket play with only one loss in favor of the Pateadores of Mission Viejo, a team that went themselves undefeated in bracket play. The two teams met again, in the championship match, this time, however, with a different result. The well played but tense game ended in a 0-0 tie, sending the teams to penalty kicks to decide the champion. After several great saves by both keepers, CUSC led by one goal with one shot left by the Pats. The boys, however, were not to be disappointed as keeper David Lopez went far to his left to block the Pats’ last shot, giving the boys the championship!

CUSC 99 Blue

The CUSC 99 Boys started out slow this summer, being finalists in the Cerritos Premier Cup and the OC Kickoff tournaments. But as the season progressed they gained their stride and took the Silver South Bracket, coming in first and allowing only 9 goals all season. The team is currently hosting open tryouts for next season.
